VFW Post 1026 hosts dinners at their hall every Monday starting at 6 pm. Cost is $8 per person. Menu varies. Everyone is invited.

In Memoriam: Rocco Fichetola Sr.

Rocco Fichetola Sr., 84, died September 4.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a member of American Legion Post 186.  Our condolences go out to the Fichetola family.

VA helps victims of Agent Orange and draws controversy

The VA  recently expanded the ability for Vets to receive compensation for exposure to Agent Orange by expanding the number of diseases linked to Agent Orange exposure.  For a list of the diseases and/or to make a claim, click here.

NJ Governor Signs Bills to Honor Vets

Gov. Chris Christie signed signed legislation to honor veterans and military personnel.

Click here to read more about it.  Of particular interest to vets is the expansion of a program to award secondary school to diplomas to those who left high school early to serve.  In addition to WWI and WWII vets, those who served in the Vietnam and Korean conflicts are now eligible.  Another bill creates a NJ Honor Guard Ribbon for select individuals.

Boys State

What do Bill Clinton, Neil Armstrong and Jon Bon Jovi have in common?  No, this is not the lead-in to a funny punchline.  They all participated in Boys State/Nation, a program designed to build an understanding of our government among young men.  The program is sponsored by the American Legion.

Post 186 heard from its delegate to the most recent Boys State, Daniel Peruta.  Daniel was accompanied by his father, Frank, a former Marine Corps Captain.  Daniel is a senior at Hammonton High School.
